At the Karnes Orchard, we grow a variety of fruits, including apples, peaches, pears, and cherries. The list below shows when we generally expect our most popular fruit to be available during the fall season. See our Facebook page for actual fruit availability.

Apples

Ginger Gold – A smooth green-yellow skin apple that is crisp, juicy with a sweet-tart flavor. Best for: snacking, salads, and cooking.

Gala – Bright yellow skin is finely stippled with red, crisp and dense texture with a mild, sweet flavor and good aroma. Best for: snack, salads, and cooking. Keeps well.

Lodi– Thick greenish-yellow skin, crisp with rich, tart flavor.  Best for cooking, especially apple sauce!

Sansa– Full red with deep red strips, sweet tasting.  Best for: snacking.

Jonamac– Dark red color over greenish background.  Firm, crisp flesh with sweet/tart flavor.  Best for: snacking, salads, cooking.

McIntosh– Deep red with a green blush skin and white flesh, crisp, tart flavor, highly aromatic and full of juice.  Best for: snacks, salads, and sauce.

Honey Crisp– Red with yellow background, super crisp, “crunch”! Juicy flesh with excellent sweet, mild flavor. Best for: snacks, salads, and cooking.

Jonathan– Round fruit with red skin and tart, yellow flesh. Best for: snacking, salads, cooking and baking.

Cortland– Deep, solid red with stripes on the underside. White, tender flesh with a sweet-tart tangy flavor.  Best for: snacking, salads, baking, and cooking.

Liberty– Red apple with a great sweet/tart balance. Best for: snacking, cooking.

Jonagold– Green-yellow apple with a red blush or sometimes orange-yellow tinged with red stripes. A cross between a Golden Delicious and Jonathon. Best for: snacking, salad, cooking, and baking.

Golden Delicious– Smooth yellow skin. Crisp, juicy mild sweet flavor. Best for: snacking, baking, and cooking.

Red Delicious– Distinctive tall shape with 5 points on the bottom, the striped skin fills in to solid deep red color.  Crisp, mildly sweet flavor. Best for: snacking, salads, and baking.

Winter Banana– Yellow apple with red blush, smooth in appearance.  Alleged banana like flavor some say more undertones of pineapple.  Best for: snacking and baking.

Melrose– The official Ohio state apple. Flattened in shape, yellowish, green skin, flushed and streaked dark red, firm, juicy with slightly acid flavor. Best for: snacking and cooking.

Mutsu– Golden yellow outside, sometimes a touch of orange with crisp flesh and sweet flavor.  Best for: snacking, salads, baking, and cooking.

Cameo– Bright red strips over a yellow-green background, sweet-tart flavor and crisp texture.  Best for: snacking, baking, and cooking.

Winesap– Round red apple, firm texture with slightly tart-spicy flavor. Best for: snacking, salads, baking, and cooking.

Fuji– Red apple with bright pinkish-red blush and sometimes yellow-striped.  Sweet flavor and crisp texture. Best for: snacking, salads, baking, and cooking.

Braeburn– Pinkish-red apple and sometimes orange-red blush over a yellow background color, with a crisp flesh, juicy with tangy, spicy-sweet flavor. Best for: snacking and cooking.

Granny Smith– Waxy, smooth, green skin with small white lenticels.  Crisp texture and tart flavor. Best for: snacking, baking, and cooking.

Goldrush– A yellow skin with blush of red this apple has very crisp, hard flesh, tart flavor that mellows to its best tart-sweet flavor in storage. Best for: snacking, baking, and cooking

Pink Lady– Pinkish to red blush over yellow apple.  A tart apple.  Best for: snacking, baking, and cooking.
